For those who don't know Sally Ride, astronaut and America's first woman in space passed on recently. She battled for a long time with pancreatic cancer but it finally got the upper hand. A very influential person to me personally because we both shared the same problem, yes I have pancreatic cancer too - its the reason I've not posted much recently.

God speed Sally Ride you were an inspiration to fellow sufferers of the disease not to mention young girls in America. She was an inspiration to young girls to strive further and aim at the stars.

Just a quick word to give you guys the lowdown on why the dearth of uploads from yours truly this last couple of months. My health has hit rock bottom and if things weren't bad enough I tripped over one of my own IV lines and broke my shoulder on the kitchen floor. I bought a wacom (beginner model, nothing fancy but it doubles as a touch pad allowing me to use my comp much in the same manner I would my android tablet.) in order to try to improve my somewhat diabollical texturing skills, the fucked shoulder has that on hold till it heals same as the traditional art I'd been doing thats had to be held over too.

Fighting depression when in this state is almost a daily occurence too, I won't go into details there but things almost ended badly several times recently.

This is week four for me that I've not been able to stomach solid food, its a pretty bad situation to be in mainly due to a lack of energy. Its no where near the longest time I've had to go without either but this time does seem somewhat different. I had a bout of flu during the early stage this time and my body didn't or rather wasn't getting the extra energy it needed to repair itself so the flue lasted a full three weeks instead of the usual few days. Woke up this morning though with something different - the harsh abdominal pains that had put me off eating had gone completely (I suffer from chronic pancretitis) and I actually managed a bowl of fruit segments for a light breakfast. I know better than to go overboard its far better just to build up meals slowly rather than binge out. Anyway its good news as far as I'm concerned. The global reinstallation I was doing during the onset of this famine period can be continued with now and perhaps the backlog of RPG imagery can be addressed. You may or may not have noticed I've not submitted a great deal this last month, no energy generally means no inspiration as far as I'm concerned.

And has no intention of doing. It seems that many people have been in some way dissatified in the past with the choices of usernames for their accounts here that now a facility exists for premium members to change theirs have jumped on the proverbial band wagon. It seems just like a fad to me. I for one am not bothered about changing my monniker here being quite happy the way things stand as they are. I just opened my inbox to find however that eight of the people that are on my current watchlist have changed theirs. Pity theres no checkbox on the change dialogue to not inform watchers etc. Watches it seems are totally unaffected by this apperently cosmetic only change.

Saturday night was a right royal pain in the arse, I had to reformat the machine that acts as a server front end for the home network. No biggie really just a 40 min job at the most as its a largely automated process its the reinstalling of all the software that I previously used alot thats the bugbear in this process. Luckily last time around I made the decision to keep all working data in runtimes on seperate physical media so that rather than having the sometimes months long task of installing content again all I need do is reinstall the applications and map the runtime drive to it. The thing is - I keep all my software installation disks remotely. Making a list of exactly which disks I'll need then getting them to me is a rather time consuming task. It helps matters not that the person that stores my original installation disks is computer illiterate so there might be Poser Pro written on the list I can virtually garantee the wrong version of poser pro is what comes back. Being disabled and unable to climb even a few stairs is really bugging me as I used to be able to go over, climb the two flights of stairs to the attic room where the fire vault is located and get the stuff myself, nowadays even a curb can pose an almost insurmountable hazard nevermind two flights of steep stairs (the house was built in 1905 prior to the introduction of the building regulation stating that a staircase can't have an angle greater than forty two point five degrees in a domestic building)

Anyway I have CJ who really tries but I'm not the only one with a problem getting into the attic space there - shes shit scared that the attic stairs won't take her body mass plus its a tight squeeze for the lady to enter the fire safe. The probs will be solved eventually its just frustrating not having the materials there when needed, not that they are needed very often.

Anyhow as a great compensation my machine now runs one hell of a lot faster than previously because theres not the billions of registry entries that build up over time no matter how scrupulous you are at system cleaning not to mention the positively billions of errant dynamic link libraries that accumulate. On the downside theres the 115 auto updates since service pack two to install (yes I'm not what you could call an early adopter of operating systems I still use XP Server 2003)

Just letting off a little steam to be honest, ignore this entry if you wish.

Tired of RPG related pics?

I've got to wondering recently wether the people who fave my postings are getting somewhat tired of the amount of pics I do that are game related (thats local traditional RPG stuff not computer games) ? I've other projects on the go but most are real modelling exercises rather than computer generated be that either from kits or scratchbuilding. I think its about time I had a change of direction art wise but would like to know what others think. Scifi has been a passion my entire life although it must be said that I prefer hard scifi to space operas like Star Trek et al. Don't take me wrong I do like a good space opera occasionally, theres nothing better that a rip roaring all action adventure thats been well written, E. E. "Doc" Smith's Lensmen series being a perfect early example of this, I can re-read those books over and over and never tire of them even if they are "formula" pulp. I'm currently reading a series I've not touched since the early 70s called Darkover by Marion Zimmer Bradley and they haven't lost their seductive magic in all those years. The reawakening of psi in latent crash survivors is a great premise for a story I think. I may do a few images from that but I will really need to start a new sketchbook so to correlate character details as described in the texts, everyones interpretation of books being different of course.

Well I'd appreciate any thoughts you creative people may have.

I just recieved an email from someone whom obviously has their head up their own arse and can only notice one possible privacy violation at a time. I was asked to support a move to block the remergence of the SOPA bill, I think the sender (quite obviously american) is not shall we say up to current speed on current events unfolding worldwide as to the freedoms of information transfer and corporate as well as governmental moves to stamp this out totally. My own country for instance - our government wants to pass a law that gives them unconditional rights to monitor not just our web habits but our phone calls, text messages, emails and how we use copyrighted material legally or illegally, all in the paranoid hope of catching "terrorists" and "paedophile rings" I'd venture to guess that said terror and child pornography rings already bypass these monitoring methods using virtual private networks (VPN) and similarly encrypted datastreams so its really just a further step to reduce our already stunted civil liberty.

In the UK (where I live [exist more like it]) when Labour was in power and proposed such a bill it was universally deplored as such an affront to civil liberty by all opposition parties yet now with our current coalition government (abortion on grand scale) they are proposing the exact same bill.

With such as the corporate dinosaurs in the states proposing shit like this, the government trying it too in the UK it won't be long before the whole world will be a China style big brother society but with the increased adoption of certain technologies by the population as a whole it will be Big Brother with GPS.

This is NOT a rant. Its a statement of fact.

Well I feel totally screwed, not only has my health taken yet another downturn but my creative "juices" or whatever you call the inspiration thingy has gone walkabouts. Just been uninstalling a pile of programs, its surprising just how much dross accumulates over the years. Manufacturers of the common art programs with their so called new releases every twelve months or less when if you sit down and look at these releases they seldom amount to more than adding bloat and minor UI redressing.
I've decided one thing for the better as an outcome of this purge and thats certain software houses will be gettin no more custom from me regarding their products and how little they've impressed.

Enough blurb, was just killing time before my next scheduled hit of morphine sulphate ( a chore if ever there was one, it might be nice if it ever gave me a lift but I suppose being realistic its doing its job and stopping too much pain getting through).

Windows users your attention please

I don't know if its escaped your attention or not but over the last several days an undesclosed source amongst Microsoft and its "trusted" partners leaked proof of concept code to a critical vulnerability present in ALL versions of windows. The PoC has been reported on many websites and tech blogs already and its purely a matter of time before some bright light in the Black Hat community develops a worm based on this code. I can't express strongly enough that users of windows read security bulletin MS12-020 technet.microsoft.com/en-us/se… and download and install the relevent patch for their installation of windows. My computers aren't in fact vulnerable as one of the first things I do after installing the OS is to disable the remote features completely. It always struck me as stupid that this service was ON by default, it would have made far more sense to have it purely as an opt in policy rather than have possibly inexperienced users having to hunt it down and disable it.

The patch, for users who can't be bothered reading the knowledge base article is KB2621440 should you prefer to google it.

SOPA yeah right

SOPA, the internet users stopped it right? So? Its seems that last June the RIAA and many noteable ISPs in the USA signed an agreement to do just exactly what SOPA was all about between them starting in the second quarter of this year.

I suggest that anyone thats remotely interested in the privacy issues here read the following Ars Technica article

arstechnica.com/tech-policy/ne…

Its quite eye opening the way these people have decided to work, to say the least. Of course being in the UK I'm hardly unaware of the government wanting to spy on our every move; here being the highest density of CCTV systems in the whole of europe and the last Labour government as a departing shot was one of the first governments to sign the ACTA bill.

For the windows users out there that watch me or stop by occasionally that don't subscribe to windows update (for whatever reason) there are two hyper important updates that you need to be made aware. Both constitute an "in the wild" meaning in use NOW on the internet, attack vector for the stuxnet derivative Duqu. Of course if you'd like to make your hardware  a nature reserve for competing bot-nets, malware factories ad-infinitum then go ahead and ignore this.

Find out the exact type of operating system you currently use (most people think this would be second nature but you'd be surprised at how many people just say "Windows" not knowing what model)

Then the two magic numbers to Google are KB972270 followed by your newly found out model and the word download and similarly KB982132 following the same procedure.

Here's those numbers again for people like me with zero day short term memory

KB972270
KB982132

If you are wondering the KB in this case is not kilo bytes but knowledge base, as in the database of known windows bugs.

Both fixes come to less than a megabyte each and take literally seconds to install. On the second one KB982132 I had to restart my computer so make sure that you aren't in the middle of a forty hour render when you install it.

Best of luck and here's hoping none of you unpatched people are infected already.

If anyone can note me a pic of the 90,000th visit to my page failing health or not I'll do them a commission.
This does not include photography. I make sure thats understood beforehand.
Other than that - a model, a conversion, just a render, I don't mind but before you decide on a subject think it through.

Thanks for the ninety thousand views, I'm not one of those people that looks at pageviews often but I thought with such a nice round number I should really give something back. Anyway 90,000 is the target, don't forget to hit print screen :)

More later, am recovering from a serious case of halloween partying.

Universal Lyrics

It doesn`t matter if you`re black or white
Or the god that you choose to pray to
It doesn`t matter about the clothes you wear
Or which creator made you
We all bleed the same blood
We all need the same love
And when we die there`s no heaven above
It`s Universal, It`s Universal

It doesn`t matter who you think you are
You`re living and you know you feel it
It`s not important as to why we`re here
You know there is no reason

We all bleed the same blood
We all need the same love
And when we die there`s no heaven above
It`s Universal, It`s Universal
It`s Universal, It`s Universal
We all bleed the same blood
We all need the same love
And when we die there`s no heaven above
It`s Universal, It`s Universal
It`s Universal, It`s Universal

OMD - Universal

Hearing these lyrics struck a chord with me the other night as I lay sedated (they wish) in big H bed. Don't you just get sick of all the crap thats still going on on this world because of religions? "gods on our side" ok who the fuck told you that? did it? I don't think so somehow.

This last few months I've been concentrating soley on creating a "Judge Dredd / Fifth Element" type cityscape for the referees at my local games club. I've even integrated sections of the construction and UV mapping into the tutorials I've been writing for :iconalankelley: in his endeavours to learn 3D modelling using an old copy of 3DS Max. I'm about satisfied with the last two models to swing off my "construction line" but can't decide which model and in what format they'd be best released in.

They say inspiration can happen anytime, anyplace and anyhow, well the inspiration for this entire project came from observing woodlice milling around between slivers of rotten treetrunk in the woods not far from here. I was just reminded of a high density traffic system cramming the lanes between old buildings, the kind of thing you come across in any European city that has a section still standing that dates back to its roots, narrow twisting lanes, seemingly haphazard placement of structures. Well I've tried to emulate this using a hexagon as the base unit for the delimeter between city blocks, some of the more densely packed (shorter structures) buildings harking back to the citys founding days, other structures representing modern day archology type structures taking up as much as half a hex ground area and extending on the Z axis perhaps 2000m in the larger sectors.

Anyway the two models I've earmarked for release are currently collada files but I can put them out in whatever format you people think may be best recieved. Structure module A - The Maze, is a medieval type road system based on a rough 4km x 4.2km ground slab.
Structure module B - by far my favourite, is based on a hexagonal grid road system and a skyrail network interlinking the buildings.

I could use some input on this, the referees at the club have basically pounced on both using the B module as a more modern megacity and the A module as the decaying ancient starports ground section and startown.

Well that about wraps this entry up.
The shameless plugs are going to get a complete revamp this month with all new plugs.

Ok to the body

In more ways than one.

Saturday morning I offered the son of my friend, whom I've come to reguard as my own after a fashion. I won't let anything bad happen to him whilst hes in my care PERIOD a 3ds Max lesson, hes like a big puppy when you offer to teach. AnywaI went through login procedure - Ubikey, voice Ident, Retinal scan then did as always invited him to sit, trouble is he didn't let me get out of the way first in his eagerness. 4 snapped Ribs, 4 hairline fractures later I try to tell him its not his fault, it isn't it was fucking automatic update screwing the timing up and hes still beating himself up. It was an easy accident, the kid don't think it was an accident at all. If he'd deliberately sat on me 9I'd be dead no two ways around it.

Child psychology was never my strong point, if theres anyone that watches this space with any experience could they6 please give me a nod as I do not want him carrying this forever.

Like a complete prick I forgot to take my meds this morning. Was 4 hours of sould destroying agony later when it was realized. I'll be brutally honest with you who read this crap, I've had enough.I don't have a life anymore I exist. Futile isn't it?
I've been dead already (flatlined) its on my medical records so know theres no "light or tunnel" theres just carrion. Religious bullshit designed to make the crap lives of the slave / serf workers of the dark ages seem to mean something, total bullshit. Go on flatline - you'll see what I mean or rather you won't.

Enough is enough I think. My condition is incurable, the only thing the docs can do is throw painkillers at it, my tolerance to opiates is so very high now a single one of my morphine doses would OD any ten hardened drug addicts. Not a good position. This entry is not about self pity, the word "pity" does not occur in my vocabulary bank. Its simply advanced warning that one of these days I'll care even less for my existance than I do today and may decide to end it.

A few things to report this time but first up I'll say a big thankyou to all the folks that faved my one and onlt Daily Deviation. Over a hundred I did manage to respond to but came the time for my afternoon meds and  I fell asleep for a few hours. The next time I logged in there was 225 new ones in my inbox but as I was feeling none too well I thought I'd leave those till this morning. Well morning came and the number was around the 280 mark, I did manage to whittle those down to 170 something when dA decided to accuse me of being a spambot and wouldn't let me comment anymore. Well to all those people whom didn't get a personal reply - A big heartfelt thanks :D

The other main issue and the one thats been behind the zero submissions recently from me is I'm in a full blown major pancreatic episode.
By that I mean my pancreas is inflamed bigstyle causing all sorts of issues not just agony. When inflamed like this it causes lumbar pain, loss of appetite (ok if you've not had the gastric bypass op I have and you have a similar episode you'll throw up, puke, anything you take down) even with the op it makes eating anything hard work.

Thats about it, sorry for the brevity but believe it or not that was my attention span for this morning or until more meds are on the scene anyway.

Again Thankyou to all those people who didn't get a personal reply to the faves, its nothing personal but between dA's bots and my internal organs playing up I've not had a lot of window of opportunity.
