Sally Ride RIP

1 min read
For those who don't know Sally Ride, astronaut and America's first woman in space passed on recently. She battled for a long time with pancreatic cancer but it finally got the upper hand. A very influential person to me personally because we both shared the same problem, yes I have pancreatic cancer too - its the reason I've not posted much recently.

God speed Sally Ride you were an inspiration to fellow sufferers of the disease not to mention young girls in America. She was an inspiration to young girls to strive further and aim at the stars.

Just a quick word to give you guys the lowdown on why the dearth of uploads from yours truly this last couple of months. My health has hit rock bottom and if things weren't bad enough I tripped over one of my own IV lines and broke my shoulder on the kitchen floor. I bought a wacom (beginner model, nothing fancy but it doubles as a touch pad allowing me to use my comp much in the same manner I would my android tablet.) in order to try to improve my somewhat diabollical texturing skills, the fucked shoulder has that on hold till it heals same as the traditional art I'd been doing thats had to be held over too.

Fighting depression when in this state is almost a daily occurence too, I won't go into details there but things almost ended badly several times recently.

This is week four for me that I've not been able to stomach solid food, its a pretty bad situation to be in mainly due to a lack of energy. Its no where near the longest time I've had to go without either but this time does seem somewhat different. I had a bout of flu during the early stage this time and my body didn't or rather wasn't getting the extra energy it needed to repair itself so the flue lasted a full three weeks instead of the usual few days. Woke up this morning though with something different - the harsh abdominal pains that had put me off eating had gone completely (I suffer from chronic pancretitis) and I actually managed a bowl of fruit segments for a light breakfast. I know better than to go overboard its far better just to build up meals slowly rather than binge out. Anyway its good news as far as I'm concerned. The global reinstallation I was doing during the onset of this famine period can be continued with now and perhaps the backlog of RPG imagery can be addressed. You may or may not have noticed I've not submitted a great deal this last month, no energy generally means no inspiration as far as I'm concerned.

And has no intention of doing. It seems that many people have been in some way dissatified in the past with the choices of usernames for their accounts here that now a facility exists for premium members to change theirs have jumped on the proverbial band wagon. It seems just like a fad to me. I for one am not bothered about changing my monniker here being quite happy the way things stand as they are. I just opened my inbox to find however that eight of the people that are on my current watchlist have changed theirs. Pity theres no checkbox on the change dialogue to not inform watchers etc. Watches it seems are totally unaffected by this apperently cosmetic only change.

Saturday night was a right royal pain in the arse, I had to reformat the machine that acts as a server front end for the home network. No biggie really just a 40 min job at the most as its a largely automated process its the reinstalling of all the software that I previously used alot thats the bugbear in this process. Luckily last time around I made the decision to keep all working data in runtimes on seperate physical media so that rather than having the sometimes months long task of installing content again all I need do is reinstall the applications and map the runtime drive to it. The thing is - I keep all my software installation disks remotely. Making a list of exactly which disks I'll need then getting them to me is a rather time consuming task. It helps matters not that the person that stores my original installation disks is computer illiterate so there might be Poser Pro written on the list I can virtually garantee the wrong version of poser pro is what comes back. Being disabled and unable to climb even a few stairs is really bugging me as I used to be able to go over, climb the two flights of stairs to the attic room where the fire vault is located and get the stuff myself, nowadays even a curb can pose an almost insurmountable hazard nevermind two flights of steep stairs (the house was built in 1905 prior to the introduction of the building regulation stating that a staircase can't have an angle greater than forty two point five degrees in a domestic building)

Anyway I have CJ who really tries but I'm not the only one with a problem getting into the attic space there - shes shit scared that the attic stairs won't take her body mass plus its a tight squeeze for the lady to enter the fire safe. The probs will be solved eventually its just frustrating not having the materials there when needed, not that they are needed very often.

Anyhow as a great compensation my machine now runs one hell of a lot faster than previously because theres not the billions of registry entries that build up over time no matter how scrupulous you are at system cleaning not to mention the positively billions of errant dynamic link libraries that accumulate. On the downside theres the 115 auto updates since service pack two to install (yes I'm not what you could call an early adopter of operating systems I still use XP Server 2003)

Just letting off a little steam to be honest, ignore this entry if you wish.
