This last few months I've been concentrating soley on creating a "Judge Dredd / Fifth Element" type cityscape for the referees at my local games club. I've even integrated sections of the construction and UV mapping into the tutorials I've been writing for :iconalankelley: in his endeavours to learn 3D modelling using an old copy of 3DS Max. I'm about satisfied with the last two models to swing off my "construction line" but can't decide which model and in what format they'd be best released in.

They say inspiration can happen anytime, anyplace and anyhow, well the inspiration for this entire project came from observing woodlice milling around between slivers of rotten treetrunk in the woods not far from here. I was just reminded of a high density traffic system cramming the lanes between old buildings, the kind of thing you come across in any European city that has a section still standing that dates back to its roots, narrow twisting lanes, seemingly haphazard placement of structures. Well I've tried to emulate this using a hexagon as the base unit for the delimeter between city blocks, some of the more densely packed (shorter structures) buildings harking back to the citys founding days, other structures representing modern day archology type structures taking up as much as half a hex ground area and extending on the Z axis perhaps 2000m in the larger sectors.

Anyway the two models I've earmarked for release are currently collada files but I can put them out in whatever format you people think may be best recieved. Structure module A - The Maze, is a medieval type road system based on a rough 4km x 4.2km ground slab.
Structure module B - by far my favourite, is based on a hexagonal grid road system and a skyrail network interlinking the buildings.

I could use some input on this, the referees at the club have basically pounced on both using the B module as a more modern megacity and the A module as the decaying ancient starports ground section and startown.

Well that about wraps this entry up.
The shameless plugs are going to get a complete revamp this month with all new plugs.

There are towns in Canada that are still like that. Tight, old streets made of cobblestone... not conducive to driving a General Motors Conversion Van on! Terrifying!
